I'm feeling a little misty...

Amy here, and it's true, I can't seem to put down my mists lately. I use them on almost each and every thing I create these days. I love how they add that bit of whimsey and splash of color to my projects. I wanted to share a few tips/techniques for using these.

First up, make sure you cover your area that your working on...they can be messy! I have a box that I put my project in to spray it, that way it never ends up spraying my work area or anything else.

I have several scrap pieces of paper that I use to cover the area on my project that I don't want to mist. Spray lightly first, because you can always add more. Use the lightest color you want first, then go back with your darker color.

I have found that you can use anything, and I mean anything as a mask when misting. Of course, the fabulous Heidi Swapp makes some masks that you can use when misting. I used this mask:

on my LO here along with some of the packaging from the scenic route chipboard.

For this next card, I used the chipboard nesting stars from magistical memories. I just placed them on my project, sprayed the mist, and lifted them off. Chipboard shapes are perfect to use as a mask, you have to just make sure they don't move on you.

For this next LO, I used a stamped image for the mask. I stamped it on some scrap cardstock, and then when I cut out the image, I made sure to make it a bit larger than the actual image. I adhered it to my project so it wouldn't move when I misted, then carefully peeled it off. To finish it, I just stamped the image on the patterened paper I wanted, cut it out, and attached it inside the masked area.

Of course, you don't only have the option of masking with the mists, you can also use it to cover chipboard, or just spray it on as a background. It is so much fun to use.

I can't talk about mists without mentioning this amazing crafter. Her work with paints and mists just astound me. Go take a peek at Dina Wakely's blog if you haven't already, and be prepared for some serious inspiration. Here is one of my faves of her's...although I seriously love everything she does!

I think I used mists on all of my projects for July but one. I hope this inspires you to try them it!
