Favorite Rooms

Our master bedroom is at the end of the hallway, and this is what you see when you look into the room...(notice, I have dirty laundry on the floor too...) When I painted our room 2 years ago, I knew I didn't want blue (only because it is the only color I've ever had in my bedroom my whole life, and I wanted a change.) My husband has always had veto power on decorating--and he hates floral printed bedspreads, so I knew that was out...
I also knew I was going for a feeling--a look. The rest of our home is comfortable and kid-friendly--that is who we are. But I couldn't shake the draw of having something different from the rest of the house--something more luxurious. Maybe the feeling of a spa...
And since the bathroom is connected, I went with that concept.
I started with the bedding. I fell in love with the luxury line at Target (they still carry it, thankfully) and went from there. I love the chocolate and dark taupe together. But my bland ivory walls weren't cutting it. So I opted to throw a few paint samples up on the wall...

I did green in the bedroom and took the taupe color in the bathroom (and the punch of green in the towels and accents was just what I needed.)

My window treatment is a silk blanket, simply hung over an extension rod. That chandelier was an Arhaus clearance item I had forever (and I love it). And that door with the chicken wire on it is an upcoming project for the water closet...

I couldn't find drapes to match exactly, and if I did, they didn't have that "it" quality, so I made my own. Straight stitches on the sewing machine--SO easy. The suede curtains open and close and are lined with room darkening shades (my husband likes to sleep in the dark) and the printed fabric curtain is stationery.

And this mirror was the deal of the century too. Also from Arhaus, I purchased just the frame alone (the mirror was broken) and I had a glass shop cut it to size. That thing is HEAVY and is 4 feet high and 5 feet wide. I love it though--it makes me smile.

My husband and I each have our own dressers, and our favorite photos are on them. It is our own personal hide away.
I know I posted about this somewhere before (sorry for the repeat) but I thought I'd just share a few tidbits. The words on the wall are both quotes from Uppercase Living. Our bed/furniture is Lexington--Bob Timberlake. The giant bowl above our bed and the ivory side tables are also an Arhaus finds. The pillows are from Pottery Barn.
I think one of my favorite things about this room is that I thought about it. I know Target isn't what you'd normally consider "luxury", but silk is silk, right? The only $$ we really invested was in the furniture (and we got that early in our marriage.) No guilt decorating was the way to go for me...
So there you have it. Go for a style/feel. Think about it--make sure it is functional. Make your accents oversized. Add a personal touch. Scan clearance sections. And don't leave your laundry on the floor when you take pictures of the room.
Got any favorite decorating tips you'd like to share? Have you scrapped your favorite room in the house? Feel free to share--I'd love to hear from you!
