In the feedback on the March kits, I got a lot of comments about the main kit being "girlie." I gotta say, I think I'm sometimes stunned when I hear that kind of thinking. I worked in a scrapbook store for 8 years, and I remember people coming in asking for bacon paper (because the three other breakfast papers we had just wouldn't do.)
I took a class from the crazy talented Ali Edwards, and I was quickly remedied of that thinking. That is not to say that I don't get "stuck" sometimes. But this month, upon Ali's urging to talk about the stories in your life that you want to tell, I approached the Material Girl papers differently.
Journaling reads: I was told this tablecloth came from a convent in Vienna. All I know for sure is that when I saw it, it was love at first sight and I had to have it. Being newly married, I knew Chris would faint at the sight of the price tag. So I nickel and dimed that thing to death until it was paid for...and then I told him. It was one of those things I knew I'd have to hand down to our children someday...and I still love it...
Do you have a story about a quilt or a favorite stuffed animal you slept with as a child? Is there a school photo that showcases your love of the 80's? Do you shop for clothing at a particular store? Is there any embroidered pillowcase, quilt or smocked dress that someone lovingly made for you? Don't let yourself be limited by the papers--use them as a springboard to get your creative juices flowing...
And by all means, share your ideas! I'd love to hear them!

I adore the March kit and only scrap my fav boy. I find it a challenge to get out of the box. Guess what - real men wear pink so I scrap with pink, flowers and anything that strikes me. Come on ladies - give it a go!! Trish - you knocked it out of the park as usual with the March kit and I adore it. Hugs!
great pages trish! thanks for sharing :)
Great post, Trish! And by the way, I LOVE THIS MONTH'S KIT!
i still have my doll i slept with when i was a munchkin. it was my older sisters and she gave it to me. my dog ate most of her head, but i still cherish her.
I think our culture is too obsessed with colours and designs and gender! Given the name "Material Girl" it definitely lends itself to be "girly". I see nothing wrong with that! Sometimes we do get caught up in stories of our kids and family that we forget to share our own story. This kit is a perfect excuse for that! I think your layout ideas were right on. We need a reminder to share those often forgotten stories. One day your grandkids (gasp!) will learn the story behind the table cloth that is in so many pictures, etc....
Thank you!!
great thoughts, trish. i think so far i have only made i 'girlie' layout with this most awesome of kits. and i am up to 5 layouts so far. ali's advice is fitting. and you are a great kit putter-together-er!
I bet Stephanie Howell could do some kick ass pages of J in military gear with your "Material Girl" kit!!!! BTW, I love your layouts.....looking forward to Spring and warmer weather.
