Pirate Booty

No, those would not be girly necklaces that their older sister used when she played dress up years ago. And no, those are not the jewels and souveniers I aquired at Mardi Gras several years back. I know they look similar...but I assure you, you're mistaken.

These jewels were in a treasure chest found in our backyard by these pirates. Oh yes, pirate booty...

This picture was taken on our patio this past summer, and it literally busts me up when I look at it. They were serious. Our one son is so serious, his eyes crossed. Their expressions are over-the-top...

So I rounded some of that booty up and made a shadowbox. Go figure. I wanted to put the plastic sword in there, but it didn't quite fit. Bummer. I mounted the 4x6 photo on white foam core board (3 thicknesses) so it would stand out and not fall down in the box. Worked like a charm!

The shadowbox measures 9" square, and I got it a while ago. It came with a mat, but I elected to not use it for this project. Don't let those limit you when you go looking for your own. I can't be the only one obsessed with these things...

Here's another tip: Get a shoebox and walk around your house. Use it to collect your own treasures. I did this the other day, and it was filled in no time. Notes, little figurines, favorite board books, legos, crayons, paint sets, a photo that sparked a memory, our daughter's first lock of hair, our son's first shoes. There is a ton of stuff around this place that represents where we are right now in our lives, as well as where we've been. I love that. These boxes are going to line the upstairs hallway when I'm finished making more. You bet I'm going to share when the time comes...

And last but certainly not least, WIP is sponsoring today's sketch over at the Sketchabilities site. Check it out...and possibly win a September WIP Kit!!

Enjoy your Monday!
